Installing ONLYOFFICE Groups on a local server

Introduction

The ONLYOFFICE Groups solution includes the collaboration platform (packaged as Community Server) and the Control Panel for easy configuration and customization of your platform.

General system requirements and recommendations are:

  • CPU
    dual core 2 GHz or better
  • RAM
    2 GB or more
  • HDD
    at least 2 GB of free space
  • OS
    Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (R2) or later

This guide will show you how to install ONLYOFFICE Groups without efforts using the express installation file.

Step 1. Download ONLYOFFICE Groups

To download the ONLYOFFICE Groups installation file go to the Download page. Switch to the ONLYOFFICE Groups -> For Windows section and click the Download button.

In the opened pop-up window click the Save button to save the .exe file to your computer, select a directory to which you would like to save it and wait till the download is completed.

Step 2. Install the prerequisites

Before starting the installation process, please check if your computer meets the necessary system requirements. The whole list of the system requirements can be found here.

Double-click the .exe file you have just downloaded - the Prerequisites Setup Wizard will be launched. It will help you to install some prerequisites required to run . Click the Next > button to continue.

Carefully read the End-User License Agreement for components and applications provided by third parties. Check the I accept the terms in the License Agreement option if you agree with them. Then click the Next > button.

You'll be prompted to install the following components:

  • .NET Framework 4.8 or higher,
  • Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 x86,
  • Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 x64,
  • Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2019 x64,
  • Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2019 x86,
  • SharePoint Server 2013 Client Components SDK x64,
  • MySQL Connector/ODBC 8.0 x86,
  • MySQL Installer Community 8.0 x64,
  • MySQL Installer Community 8.0 x64 Runner
  • Node.js v.12.18 x86,
  • PostgreSQL v.9.5 x64,
  • Erlang v.20.3 x64,
  • RabbitMQ v.3.7 x64,
  • PostgreSQL ODBC Driver x64,
  • Python 3.7 x64,
  • Redis 3.0 x64,
  • Java SE Runtime Environment 8u 171 x64,
  • Elasticsearch v.7.4 x64,
  • WinCertes v.1.2 x64.

The Prerequisites Wizard automatically checks if the required components are installed on your PC:

The components that are missing on your PC will be checked. Click the Next button to install the missing components. This process may take some minutes.

Step 3. Install ONLYOFFICE Groups

As soon as all the components are installed, you can proceed to the main program installation. The ONLYOFFICE Groups Setup Wizard will be launched automatically. Click the Next > button to start the installation process.

Read the Apache License carefully and check the I accept the terms in the License Agreement option if you agree with them. Then click the Next > button.

By default ONLYOFFICE Groups will be installed to the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ascensio System SIA\ONLYOFFICE Groups\. If needed you can change it clicking the Browse button and selecting the necessary folder on your computer. Then click the Next > button.

Click the Install button to start the installation process. It may take several minutes.

Once the installation process is completed, click the Finish button to launch ONLYOFFICE Groups.

You will be redirected to the welcome page of your portal.

Step 4. Run ONLYOFFICE Groups

For the security reasons the password setup procedure MUST be performed.

Enter a Password you will use to access your ONLYOFFICE Groups portal the next time and confirm it. Your password must be at least 8 but no more than 30 characters long.

Specify your email address. The Email Activation message will be sent to the specified email. Follow the link provided in this email to complete your email activation procedure.

Accept the License Agreement terms by checking the corresponding box (obligatory). Optionally, check the boxes if you want to subscribe to the ONLYOFFICE newsletter and/or agree to send anonymous usage data to improve ONLYOFFICE.

On this page you can also:

  • view the domain your portal is registered to;
    You can always set an alternative URL for your portal on the portal Settings page. For more information, refer to the Configuration section.
  • drop-down the Language list and select an appropriate language to display all portal pages and notification;
    At present ONLYOFFICE Groups is available in 23 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Latvian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Turkish, Greek, Polish, Czech, simplified Chinese, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Finnish, Portuguese, Azeri, Korean, Japanese, Slovenian, Dutch and Slovak. If your language is not yet present in the list of the available ones or the translation to your language is not complete, you may contribute to the translation sending your request at documentation@onlyoffice.com.
  • set the time zone that corresponds to your location from the Time Zone drop-down list.

When all the parameters are set, click the Save button.

That's all! Your portal is created. Choose one of the available modules to start exploring ONLYOFFICE Groups.

Step 5. Connect ONLYOFFICE Docs

ONLYOFFICE Docs is not included into the installation but you can connect it to your portal if you have them installed. The installation can be downloaded on the Download page. Read the Connecting ONLYOFFICE Docs to ONLYOFFICE Groups section to learn more detail on that.
