Introduction

Document Server is an online office suite comprising viewers and editors for texts, spreadsheets and presentations, fully compatible with Office Open XML formats: .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and enabling collaborative editing in real time. If you decide to deploy Document Server on your server, first of all you need to download the latest version of Document Server available at Github and SourceForge and select one of the following files:

  • ONLYOFFICE_DocumentServer_Win-src.v2.5.0.zip - a source code that you need to compile. It can be customized and improved under the GNU AGPL v.3 license.
  • ONLYOFFICE_DocumentServer_Win-install.v3.0.exe - the express installation file that allows to skip compilation stage and install Document Server onto your server. You just need to run the appropriate .exe file and Document Server will be installed.

General system requirements and recommendations are (for Document Server version 3.0 and later):

  • CPU
    dual core 2 GHz or better
  • RAM
    2 GB or more
  • HDD
    at least 40 GB of free space
  • OS
    Microsoft Windows 8, Microsoft Windows 8.1 and later, Microsoft Windows Server 2012(R2) and later
  • Additional Requirements
    • Microsoft .NET Framework: version 3.5;
    • Internet Information Services: version 7 or later;
    • MySQL Server: version 5.1 or later;
    • Node.js: version 0.10.x (32-bit version);
    • Python: version 2.7;
    • Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2010 Express;
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update (32-bit version);
    • Web Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or later, latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome.
If you want to use Document Server together with Community Server, they must be installed on two different machines.

This guide will show you how to deploy Document Server without efforts.

Step 1. Download Document Server

To download the Document Server installation file just go to SourceForge, select the folder with the latest version, select binaries and click the ONLYOFFICE_DocumentServer_Win-install.v.3.0.exe link.

Click the Save button in the opened window to save the .exe file to your computer, select a directory to which you would like to save it and wait till the download is completed.

Step 2. Install the prerequisites

Before starting the installation process, please check if your computer meets the necessary system requirements (see Introduction).

Find the .exe file you have just downloaded (it will be located in the directory specified at Step 1) and double-click it to start the installation process.

The Prerequisites Wizard will be launched. It will help you to install some prerequisites required to run ONLYOFFICE:

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 (MFC Security update);
  • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 x86;
  • MYSQL Connector/ODBC 5.3. or higher;
  • Node.js 0.10.x (32-bit version);

The Prerequisites Wizard automatically checks if the required components are installed on your PC:

The components that are missing on your PC will be checked. Click the Next button and follow the further Wizard instructions to install the missing components. This process may take some minutes.

If the required components are already installed on your PC, the Document Server Setup Wizard will be launched.

Step 3. Install Document Server

As soon as all the components are installed, you can proceed to the main program installation. The Document Server Setup Wizard will be launched automatically. Click the Next > button to start the installation process.

Read the Document Server End-User License Agreement carefully and check the I accept the terms in the License Agreement option if you agree with them. Then click the Next > button.

By default Document Server will be installed to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Ascensio System SIA\ONLYOFFICE DocumentServer\. If needed you can change it clicking the Browse button and selecting the necessary folder on your computer. Then click the Next > button.

Check if the MySQL database is installed on your PC. If not, use the link below to download and install it.

Configure the MySQL connection settings. Leave the default parameters for Server, Port and Username (these are the parameters you set during the MySQL database installation). And enter your MySQL password (the password you used while installing the MySQL database).

The name displayed in the Database field - onlyoffice - is used to identify this database when it is opened by any third party application. So you can change it and enter any other name you like. Then click the Next > button.

Please, pay attention to the fact that the Prerequisites Wizard (described at Step 2) does not install the MySQL database itself but the MySQL Connector only which serves for establishing the connection between ONLYOFFICE and MySQL database.

That is all. The Setup Wizard is ready to install Document Server. Click the Install button to start the installation process. It may take several minutes.

Once the installation process is completed, you can start exploring Document Server. Enter http://localhost/OnlineEditorsExample/ in the address bar of your browser to see Online Editors in action or integrate them into your website or service using the provided API.
