Migrating from ONLYOFFICE Workspace Community to Enterprise on Windows

Introduction

If you have been using ONLYOFFICE Workspace for some time and now want to make use of the advanced online office functionality, you can migrate to ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition. ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition provides extended functionality, such as:

  • mobile web editors,
  • regular functionality and security updates during 1 year,
  • 1 year of professional tech support service.

This article describes how to upgrade from ONLYOFFICE Workspace to ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition on Windows, assuming that the default installation directories remain unchanged.

Step 1. (optional) Creating database backup

As a precaution, you can perform the backup of the folders that contain portal data and logs.

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Ascensio System SIA\CommunityServer\Data\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Ascensio System SIA\CommunityServer\Logs\

In case you plan to install ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition on a different server, or MySQL server is installed in a different location, you will need to create a backup of the MySQL database using any available software you have for such purposes. If only ONLYOFFICE is installed there, it is sufficient to copy the following folder.

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\data\ or C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\Data\ (depending on Windows version)

After all the data is backed up, please check the portal for the correct launch and remember some user data to be able to check it after the upgrade.

Step 2. Uninstalling ONLYOFFICE Workspace

Right-click the Windows Start button, open the Control Panel, and go to the Programs -> Programs and features section.

  • Option 1: Uninstall the ONLYOFFICE Community Server, ONLYOFFICE Control Panel, ONLYOFFICE DocumentServer and ONLYOFFICE XMPP Server components.
  • Option 2: Alternatively, you can uninstall the ONLYOFFICE DocumentServer component only.

Step 3. Installing ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition

Go to the Download page.

  • Option 1: Download and install ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition. Please read this guide for more details on how to install ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition on your Windows machine.
  • Option 2: Alternatively, you can download and install the ONLYOFFICE Docs Enterprise Edition component only. For more details, you can read this instruction.

Step 4. (optional) Restore the backup

When ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition is installed, go to the backup folder with your portal data.

Copy the Data and Logs folders and paste them to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Ascensio System SIA\CommunityServer\ folder.

By default, ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition uses the same database as ONLYOFFICE Workspace, therefore you do not need to restore the database backup if you install ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition on the same server. If you install ONLYOFFICE Workspace Enterprise Edition on a different machine, just transfer the backed up folders with portal data and MySQL database to the corresponding directories on the new server.

Step 5. Launch the portal and activate your license

Now you can launch the portal and check it for correct work and all data presence. The last thing you need to do is go to the /controlpanel/activate page (open the Control Panel and click the Upgrade to Enterprise link on the top), click the Buy button to buy the license, then upload the license key that you've bought in the corresponding field and click the Activate button.
