Screen reader support
Introduction
ONLYOFFICE editors are designed to accommodate users with special needs, making the editing process comfortable and simple. Please note that the list is not exhaustive, and new features will be added in upcoming updates. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share them on GitHub.
Screen reader support
Screen readers convert various screen elements, like text and images, into speech, making it possible to interact with digital content in a non-visual way.
The screen readers notify you of the following actions in ONLYOFFICE Docs:
Document Editor
- Selecting some text or cancelling the selection.
- Editing the selected text by adding or removing something.
- Moving the mouse cursor with the left/right arrow keys or moving to the right/left by pressing the
Ctrlkey. - Moving the mouse cursor with the up/down arrow keys.
- Navigating to the beginning or the end of the document.
Spreadsheet Editor
- Moving the mouse cursor and changing the selection within a cell.
- Moving from one cell to another and changing the selection with the keyboard or the mouse.
- Switching between the sheets of the spreadsheet.
Presentation Editor
- Adding, selecting or deselecting one or several objects on a slide.
- Editing and navigating through text within a text box or a shape.
- Editing and navigating through text in notes.
- Adding a new slide.
- Moving from one slide to another.
- Selecting or deselecting several slides.
You can enable screen reader support in the editor settings (see corresponding articles for Document / Spreadsheet / Presentation / PDF Editor / Diagram Viewer).
Additional software
To use the screen readers in ONLYOFFICE, please install some additional software components depending on your operating system:
- Windows: JAWS; NVDA
- Linux: Orca
- macOS: Voice Over
