Integrating Talk into an IM client

If you decided to integrate the Talk module into an instant messenger like Miranda, Trillian, Pidgin, Adium, Psi, qutIM, Mail.ru Agent, QIP and don't know how to do that, you are at the right place! Just follow the instructions below and communicate with your colleagues, team mates or friends using Talk via IM client installed on your computer.

Bare Bones Instructions

To integrate Talk into an instant messenger, follow these easy steps:

  1. Enter your instant messenger.
  2. Set the necessary parameters depending on the IM you use.

    Miranda For Miranda

    1. Right-click the Miranda icon and select 'Main Menu' >> 'Accounts...'.
    2. Click the plus icon below to add a new account.
    3. In the opened window, enter Talk as account name and select 'JABBER' as protocol type, next click OK.
    4. Click the newly created account in the list on the left to view its settings.
    5. In the 'Type' field, select 'Secure XMPP Network'.
    6. In the 'User' field, enter your login (it is everything that goes before @ in the email you used to register in ONLYOFFICE).
    7. In the 'Domain/Server' field, enter your portal address (i.e. YourPortalName.teamlab.com or YourPortalName.teamlab.eu.com).
    8. In the 'Password' field, enter the password that you use to sign in to ONLYOFFICE.
    9. Click the OK button.

    Trillian For Trillian

    1. Go to 'Trillian' >> 'Manage Accounts'.
    2. In the opened 'Preferences' window, click the 'Add a New Account' button and select 'Jabber/XMPP'.
    3. Enter your Jabber ID (i.e. YourName@YourPortalName.teamlab.com or YourName@YourPortalName.teamlab.eu.com) in the 'Username' field.
    4. In the 'Password' field, enter the password that you use to sign in to ONLYOFFICE.
    5. Click the 'Connect' button.

    Pidgin For Pidgin

    1. Go to 'Accounts' >> 'Manage Accounts'.
    2. In the opened 'Accounts' window, click the 'Add...' button.
    3. On the 'Basic' tab, select 'XMPP' in the 'Protocol' dropdown list.
    4. In the 'Username' field, enter your login (everything that goes before @ in the email you used to register in ONLYOFFICE).
    5. In the 'Domain' field, enter your portal address (i.e. YourPortalName.teamlab.com or YourPortalName.teamlab.eu.com).
    6. In the 'Password' field, enter the password that you use to sign in to ONLYOFFICE.
    7. Check the 'Remember password' box to sign in to Talk every time you start Pidgin.
    8. Switch to the 'Advanced' tab. In the 'Connection security' dropdown list, select the 'Use encryption if available' option and enter your portal address in the 'Connect server' field.
    9. Click the 'Save' button.

    Adium For Adium

    1. Choose 'Preferences' from the Adium menu.
    2. Select the 'Accounts' preferences pane.
    3. Click the plus (+) button.
    4. Enter your account name (Jabber ID) and password in the 'Account' panel.
    5. Click 'OK'.

    Psi For Psi

    1. Go to 'General' >> 'Account Setup'.
    2. In the opened window, click the 'Add' button. In the 'Name' field, enter 'Talk' and click the 'Add' button.
    3. In the 'Account Properties' window, enter your Jabber ID in the corresponding field at the 'Account' tab (i.e. YourName@YourPortalName.teamlab.com or YourName@YourPortalName.teamlab.eu.com).
    4. In the 'Password' field, enter the password that you use to sign in to ONLYOFFICE.
    5. In the 'Settings' section of the same tab, check the corresponding box to sign in to Talk every time you start Psi.
    6. Switch to the 'Connection' tab. Check the 'Manually Specify Server Host/Port' box. Then enter your portal address into the 'Host' field.
    7. Click the 'Save' button.

    qutIM For qutIM

    1. Right-click the qutIM icon in the System Tray and select 'Settings'.
    2. The 'Accounts' tab will open, double-click the 'Add new account' panel.
    3. In the opened window, select Jabber as protocol type and enter your Jabber ID into the 'Login' field as well as password. Check the 'Save password' box if you don't want to log in into your Talk account each time you start qutIM.
    4. Click the 'Finish' button.

    Mail.ru Agent For Mail.ru Agent

    1. Open your Mail.ru Agent.
    2. Click the 'Menu' button at the bottom, select the 'Account Settings...' option.
    3. In the opened window, click 'XMPP/Jabber'.
    4. In the 'Account Settings' window, enter your Jabber ID as login (as displayed on the Talk main page) and password you use to enter the portal.
    5. Check the 'Specify additional parameters' box and enter the server address and port that can be found on the Talk main page.
    6. Click the OK button.

    QIP For QIP

    1. Open a QIP instance and click the 'Preferences' icon at the top.
    2. Switch to the 'Accounts' tab in the opened window.
    3. Click the 'Add new account' button and select 'XMPP/Jabber' in the list.
    4. Enter your Jabber ID into the 'Account name' field as well as password. Check the 'Save password' box if you don't want to log in into your Talk account each time you start QIP.
    5. Click the 'Apply' button and then 'OK'.
    6. The Talk account will be added to the list of the existing ones. Click the 'Settings' button next to it. Switch to the 'Server' tab and tick the 'Advanced connection settings' box. Then check the 'Manually specify the connection host' box and enter your portal address into the 'Host' field as well as the port number (it's usually 5222, but to make sure visit the Talk main page on your portal). Click the 'Apply' button and then 'OK'.
  3. Restart your instant messenger for the settings to take effect (if needed).

You're ready now to use Talk via your IM client!

Helpful Hints

Where can I find my exact Jabber ID?

Enter your portal at ONLYOFFICE. Add /addons/talk/ at the end of your portal address in the address bar of your web browser, i.e. [your portal name].onlyoffice.com/addons/talk/, and press the Enter key. After that the Talk main page will open, where you can read general information on this module and see all the data you need to integrate Talk into your IM client, including your Jabber ID.

Can I integrate Talk into another instant messenger?

Yes, you can integrate Talk into any IM client that supports Jabber/XMPP.

I have problems with integrating Talk into my IM client. Any help?
