Integrating ONLYOFFICE with Nextcloud

Connect your Nextcloud account to edit documents stored in Nextcloud directly from the Documents portal module.

Connecting Nextcloud to ONLYOFFICE

To connect your Nextcloud account:

  1. In the left sidebar of the Documents module, click the Nextcloud icon Nextcloud icon under Connect, or go to Settings > Connected clouds and click Connect cloud.
  2. Enter the connection URL, your user name, and password, then click Save.
The WebDAV URL for your Nextcloud account can be found by signing in to Nextcloud, clicking the Settings icon in the lower left corner, and copying the URL from the WebDAV field. The URL has the following format: https://yourdomain.com/remote.php/webdav/. Paste the full URL, including the protocol, into the Connection URL field.
Your Nextcloud documents will appear in the Documents module as a folder.
  3. Change the folder name if necessary.
  4. To make Nextcloud documents visible to all portal users, select the Make shared checkbox to place them in the Common Documents folder. If left deselected, the Nextcloud account will be visible to you only.
  5. Click Save.

Editing Nextcloud documents

To edit a document stored in Nextcloud:

  1. Locate the Nextcloud folder in the Documents module and open it.
  2. Browse to the file you want to edit and click it. If necessary, a dialog will prompt you to convert the document to the OpenOffice XML format for faster viewing and editing. To keep the original file, select the Save the file copy in the original format as well checkbox.
  3. Click Convert.
  4. Click Open when the message appears that the document has been successfully converted.

After editing, close the document to save the changes.

Additional information

Placing files from Nextcloud into a specific Documents section

If you do not have administrator rights for the Documents module, all documents from a connected resource will be placed in the My documents section.

As an administrator (with full access or within the Documents module only), you can place the files in the Common section by selecting the Make shared and put into the 'Common' folder checkbox. If this box is left unchecked, the files will be placed in the My documents section.

Removing the connected resource without deleting data

To disconnect Nextcloud without deleting the data, click the Actions icon icon next to the Nextcloud folder and select Disconnect third party. The documents will remain available in your Nextcloud account.

Deleting documents from the Nextcloud folder

If you delete a document from the Nextcloud folder, it will also be deleted from your Nextcloud account. The file will not be placed in the Trash section of the Documents module — the deletion is irreversible.
