News: Searching and reading news articles
In ONLYOFFICE Docs, you can search for and read up-to-date news articles directly within the editor using the
News plugin available in the Document Editor, Spreadsheet Editor, Presentation Editor, and PDF Editor. The plugin integrates with three major news APIs: GNews, TheNewsAPI, and WorldNewsAPI. Please refer to the GitHub page of the plugin to learn more.
ImportantStarting with ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.2, no plugins come with the editors by default. The plugins shall be installed via the
Plugin Manager.
First, configure the plugin:
- Install the
News plugin using the Plugin Manager. - Go to the Plugins tab and click the
News plugin. - Choose your news provider from the drop-down list and follow the provided link to obtain your API key from their website.
- Enter your API key and login.
To search for news:
- Switch to the Plugins tab and choose
News. - Select the search mode: Everything for broad coverage or Top Headlines for current headlines by region, category, or source.
- Enter your search query.
- Apply filters as needed: language, country, category, or news source.
- Browse the results and click an article to read more.
Search modes
The plugin offers two search modes:
- Everything — search across all available articles on any topic for comprehensive coverage.
- Top Headlines — find top stories filtered by specific countries, categories, or trusted news sources.
Search customization
The plugin provides several options to refine your searches:
- Search scope — search article titles only, or expand to include descriptions or full article content.
- Language and geographic filtering — access news from international sources by selecting specific languages or filtering by country.
- Sorting — sort results by relevance, publication date, or popularity.
- Category filtering — filter by categories such as technology, business, health, sports, or entertainment.
