MathType: Working with formulas
When working with complex mathematical formulas in the Spreadsheet Editor, precision and ease of input are essential. The MathType plugin provides an intuitive way to create and edit mathematical expressions using both structured operators and handwritten input. Please note that this plugin is designed for web editors only.
Starting with ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.2, no plugins come with the editors by default. The plugins shall be installed via Plugin Manager.
Once installed, MathType offers several configuration tabs to help you structure your formulas effectively:
- General tab - contains fractions, roots, brackets, mathematical signs, and formatting tools.
- Symbols tab - provides various mathematical symbols and operators.
- Arrows tab - includes different types of arrows for vector notation and directional indicators.
- Greek, letters and numbers tab - allows you to insert Greek letters, fraktur-style text, and Arabic-Indic numerals.
- Matrices and elementary tab - offers matrix templates for easy input of structured data.
- Scripts and layout tab - supports fractions, roots, superscripts, and subscripts for advanced formatting.
- Decorations tab - provides accents and other text decorations for specific mathematical expressions.
- Big operators tab - includes under- and overscripts for summations, products, and other large operators.
- Calculus tab - features integrals, differentials, derivatives, and logarithmic functions for advanced calculus work.
Handwritten mode
MathType also includes a handwritten mode, allowing users to write mathematical expressions manually.
- Use the drawing area to write your formula.
- Undo or redo actions as needed using the corresponding buttons on the left.
- Delete mistakes or unnecessary elements using the corresponding button on the left.
- View the preview of your handwritten input converted to text in the bottom right corner.
- Once satisfied, click the Insert button to place the formula into your spreadsheet.
