Bergamot Translator: Translating text locally

In ONLYOFFICE Docs, you can translate text directly within the editor without an Internet connection using the Bergamot Translator plugin. The plugin uses neural machine translation powered by the same technology as Firefox Translations. Please refer to the GitHub page of the plugin to learn more.

ImportantStarting with ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.2, no plugins come with the editors by default. The plugins shall be installed via the Plugin Manager.

Usage

1. Install the plugin via the Plugin Manager.
2. Switch to the Plugins tab and choose Bergamot Translator.
3. Select the text you want to translate.
4. Choose source and target languages.
5. Click Insert to document to replace selected text with translation, or click Copy to copy the translation to clipboard.

The plugin uses Bergamot Translator, a WebAssembly port of the Marian NMT framework. Translation models are provided by Mozilla Firefox Translations. The plugin is part of the Bergamot Project.

How it works

An Internet connection is required for the first launch and for downloading of new models.

1. First use: The plugin downloads the translation engine (WASM) and selected language models.
2. Model caching: Models are cached in your browser for offline use.
3. Translation: Text is translated locally using neural machine translation.
