Installing from snap package

The desktop version of online editors does not require constant connection to the internet and can work with offline files on your computer. So if you prefer this, you can either download and install the desktop editors from our website or add the link to the repository with them to your Linux OS and use them and update afterwards just like any other Linux application.

Installing Desktop Editors using Snapcraft command line tool

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors are available in the Snapcraft store as a snap package.

A snap contains all the dependencies to run the application. To use it, all you need is snapd, a system to install and manage snaps. Snapd is included in most modern distributions. You only need to either enable or install it. See the official snap project page for the snapd installation instructions.

  1. For example, to install snapd under Ubuntu, you need to run the commands:
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install snapd
  2. Now the editors can be easily installed using the following command:
    snap install onlyoffice-desktopeditors

Running Desktop Editors

Once the installation is over, you can run the editors using the terminal command:

snap run onlyoffice-desktopeditors

In case you prefer to use a graphical user interface, you can always find the editors in your computer's Application menu - Office - ONLYOFFICE.

Uninstalling Desktop Editors

Uninstalling Desktop Editors will permanently delete associated local data, including application configuration and preference files, cached data and temporary files, local service files and user-generated data used for application startup, andother files and records created by the application during its use. This action is irreversible. Once uninstalled, the data listed above cannot be recovered unless you have created a backup prior to uninstallation. If you wish to preserve any of this data, please back it up manually before proceeding with the uninstallation.

To remove the snap containing ONLYOFFICE editors, use the following command:

sudo snap remove onlyoffice-desktopeditors

Regularly, there shall remain no residual files after removal using common system methods. However, if any, run the following command to remove anything that that may still remain:

sudo rm -rf ~/snap/onlyoffice-desktopeditors
