Seafile
Introduction
ONLYOFFICE allows you to edit the files stored in your Seafile account and collaborate on them using both online and desktop editors. Thereby, you can use not only online collaboration tools but also the features available in your desktop application, such as access to system fonts, the clipboard, and system printers.
To take full advantage of all these editing options, you’ll need to install and configure several components:
-
It's supposed that you already have a Seafile server instance installed and configured. If not, you can refer to the Seafile official installation instructions.
noteTo ensure a stable connection, add the following line into the
seahub_settings.pyfile:ONLYOFFICE_DESKTOP_EDITORS_PORTAL_LOGIN = True -
Install ONLYOFFICE Docs. Please note that the Seafile server and ONLYOFFICE Docs must be accessible to each other over the network.
noteOne of the easiest ways to install and configure ONLYOFFICE Docs is to use our Docker installation.
-
Connect your Seafile server to ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.
An Internet connection is required for connecting your Seafile server, as well as for real-time co-editing.
Step 1. Install ONLYOFFICE Docs
The easiest way to install ONLYOFFICE Docs is to use Docker. To find detailed instructions on how to install ONLYOFFICE Docs using Docker, you can refer to this article.
To make sure that ONLYOFFICE Docs is installed successfully, enter the IP address and, optionally, port (if it has been changed during the installation) in your browser address bar, e.g., http://192.168.3.202:81 - the ONLYOFFICE Docs welcome page should open.
To learn more about the configuration process, please read the article on Seafile-ONLYOFFICE integration. You can also deploy the instances within UCS.
Step 2. Connect to Seafile server
Launch ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors. To connect Desktop Editors to your Seafile server, follow the steps below:
-
Click the Clouds tab on the left navigation panel. The list of the available cloud services opens.
-
Find Seafile in the Available clouds list and click the Connect link on the right.
-
The Connect to Seafile window opens. In the Cloud office URL field, enter your Seafile server domain name or IP address. Click the Connect button.

-
The Seafile Log In page opens in a new tab of the Desktop Editors interface. Specify the Email or Username and the Password you use to access your Seafile account and click the Log In button. Check the Remember me for 7 days box to stay signed in to Seafile.

The Files section of your Seafile account opens in the same tab. Now you can edit your existing files, create new ones, share your documents, and collaborate with Seafile users using ONLYOFFICE editors.
Step 3. Manage your connected accounts
Click the ONLYOFFICE tab in the upper left corner of the window to return to the main program window. The connected cloud accounts appear in the Connected clouds section at the top of the Clouds tab. Hover the mouse over a connected cloud and click the three dots on the right to access the cloud context menu options:

- Open – to switch to the corresponding cloud storage tab if you are already logged in to this account, or to open the Connect to Seafile window if you are not currently logged in (in such a case, you will need to enter your credentials).
- Logout – to exit from your account. The connected account still appears in the Connected clouds section, but you have to log in again next time to access your Seafile files.
- Remove from list – to disconnect the selected account and remove it from the list.
To add more accounts or clouds, use the Available clouds list below on the Clouds tab.
