Changing the default document templates in the Desktop Editors

Introduction

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors use default fonts, font size and color, styles and margins for all new documents.

You can customize the default font, size, and styles for the new documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDF forms created with ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.

Changing the default formatting settings for new documents

To change the default font, you need to change and to replace the default templates for documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDF forms: new.docx, new.xlsx, new.pptx, and new.pdf.

  • Access the folder containing the default templates. The path depends on the OS you are using.

    The path for macOS:

    /Applications/ONLYOFFICE.app/Contents/Resources/converter/empty/

    The path for Linux:

    /opt/onlyoffice/desktopeditors/converter/empty/

The path for Windows 64-bit version (x64):

    %ProgramFiles%\ONLYOFFICE\DesktopEditors\converter\empty
  • Open the locale folder that corresponds to the interface language you use, and copy the templates to another location
  • Open the templates for the file formats you want to change, and configure the font, the size, the styles, and the margins to suit your needs.
  • Copy the edited files and replace the original default templates in the locale folder. If you use different languages, configure the deafult templates for each localization.
After an update, the customized templates are replaced by the default ones to avoid conflicts with the new version of the application. Save the necessary templates to another location before the update, and replace the default templates again after the update.
